HOW MUCH FUEL WOULD SANTA BURN?

What if Santa delivered gifts in a traditional combustion engine delivery van?

Santa needs to travel roughly 226 million miles before Christmas morning in order to deliver gifts to children around the world.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, each gallon of fuel burned is responsible for 19.6 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions.

If the average delivery van gets about 20 mpg, Santa would need about 11.3 million gallons of fuel for his journey.

This would generate over 221 million pounds of greenhouse gasses.

Luckily Rudolph doesn’t need 11.3 million gallons of fuel to help Santa on his quest. But what about the rest of us? How do gifts get to your house?
